Kappa Alpha Theta at UCSC
During my time in Kappa Alpha Theta (Theta Xi Chapter) I served as the President, Vice President of Membership, and Membership Development Committee Representative.
President
As President, it was my responsibility to make sure the chapter was running effectively. I worked with the Student Organization Advising Resources department at UCSC to ensure the sorority was in line with all school procedures and regulations. In addition, I led 16 executive officers in planning events for the sorority and being effective leaders. I led chapter meetings every week and even had the opportunity to attend the Kappa Alpha Theta Biennial Grand Convention to meet with other chapter presidents and board members. My time as President in Kappa Alpha Theta has shown me how to be a compassionate yet productive leader of an inspiring group of women.
Vice President Membership
As Vice President Membership, my main goal was to plan the sorority’s recruitment process. I had the opportunity to collaborate with the other national Panhellenic sororities at UCSC to plan recruitment. I was in charge of everything from designing t-shirts, booking rooms, coordinating conversations with potential new members, giving presentations, and more. I also hosted a week long training event for active members of Kappa Alpha Theta to learn how to be successful recruiters. I taught skills such as public speaking, active listening, body language, and self confidence.
Membership Development Committee
All four years of my time in Kappa Alpha Theta I had the opportunity to serve on the Membership Development Committee as a class representative for my grade level. Each class has two representatives that meet with the committee each week to discuss how to solve problems that arise in the chapter. Members have the opportunity to talk to the committee about personal issues as well. Being a member of this committee has taught me how to have empathy for others and consider every party’s feelings while problem solving.
